With its unspoilt countryside and ample lakes, Limousin remains one of France’s best-kept secrets. It’s ideal for walking, fishing, water sports, bird-watching, cycling or simply relaxing.
Limousin covers three areas - we are in south-west Creuse between Bourganeuf and Peyrat-le-Chateau, bordering Haute Vienne. Corrèze is to the south.
The area’s greatest attraction is undoubtedly Lac de Vassivière, about 20 minutes away by car. The smaller lakes of St Hélène and Bujaleuf are also nearby. We can arrange access to a private well-stocked local lake for fishing, and a tennis court is available for hire in St Junien la Brégère.
For shopping, Bourganeuf and Peyrat-le-Chateau are both about five miles away, with the usual amenities including cafés, restaurants, banks and post offices.
For eating out, the Auberge de la Fontaine in nearby Cheissoux offers a three-course dinner for two, including drinks, for around 60 euros. There are also auberges at St Julien le Petit and St Martin Chateau, both about 15 mins by car.
